More about Calatrava 96 Stainless Steel

This is a vintage c. 1930's stainless steel Patek Philippe Calatrava 96. It has an alligator leather strap with a stainless steel Patek Philippe tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a pullout winding crown and a snap on solid case back inside of which is engraved "PATEK PHILIPPE CO. – GENEVE – SWISS – STAYBRITE – STAINLESS STEEL," and a serial number. The 30.5mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned lugs, and flat bezel are polished/brushed. Designer François Baumgartner created the case. The original silver dial has applied faceted steel "boat" baton hour markers around a dot minute scale. It has steel Dauphine hands and there is a subsidiary running seconds dial at the 8 o'clock position. The 9.7mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Calatrava 96 has a mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 120 movement. It's rhodium plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a wolf's tooth winding device, a monometallic balance that's adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and three positions, and a self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring. It includes a swan-neck micrometer, and an index regulator. Production of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 96 began in 1932.
