More about Vintage Caliber 83 Calatrava Sector Double Dial Signed Circa 1936

This is a vintage stainless steel c. 1936 IWC Sector Dial Caliber 83. It has a stainless steel "bamboo" link bracelet, and an acrylic crystal. There is a solid brushed snap-on case back, inside of which is engraved "ACIER – STAYBRITE - STEEL," and a serial number. It has a push/pull winding crown with a full-depth crown protector. The 30.5mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned lugs, and flat bezel are polished. The original sector dial is silver with black Arabic numeral hour marker at the even hours, steel baton indices, and blued steel syringe hands, around a perimeter minute track. There is a railway-style subsidiary constant running seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. It has a power reserve of 38 hours at full wind, and the 9.3mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding IWC caliber 83 is constructed with 16 jewels, 6 bridges, a monometallic balance, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has a self-compensating flat balance spring, a micrometer regulator, and a Breguet overcoil. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph. The IWC caliber 83 movement was a transitional caliber from pocket watches to wristwatches. It was first produced in c. 1935, and was retired in 1947. It was the engine for a lot of fine dress and military watches during WWII.
