More about Breitling 2005 Vintage Breitling SuperOcean "Slow Counter" Chronograph RARE

This is a vintage c. 1967 stainless steel Breitling SuperOcean, Ref. 2005. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It has an aluminum bi-directional rotating 60-min bezel with Arabic numeral dive and decompression times, and a screw-down solid case back. The 42mm diameter three body solid case and lapidated lugs are polished/brushed. The dial is black with a white outer minute track, luminous white skeleton hands, and luminous round, triangular, and baton hour marker indexes. There is an aperture at 6 o'clock showing full circle, small circle and no circle for the start-stop and return-to-zero function of the "slow counter" chronograph. The luminous chronograph hand has an oversize diamond-shaped indicator that records minutes on the main dial for extra legibility. The aperture display at 6 is blank when the diving timer is inactive, and it exhibits a big green lume dot when it's engaged, with a small lume dot when it's paused. It's water resistant to 200 meters/660 feet, and the 14.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The mechanical manual winding Valjoux caliber 7731 movement is rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has a monometallic balance that's adjusted for temperature, and a self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring.

The SuperOcean ref. 2005 Diver was launched in 1965.
