More about Breguet 3800ST/92/SW9 Type XX Aeronavale SS/SS Black Dial

This is a stainless steel Breguet Type XX Aeronavale, 3800ST/92/SW9. It has a stainless steel bracelet with a deployant buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a solid case back, a screw-down winding crown, two round pushbuttons for the fly back chronograph, and a bi-directional rotating bezel with engraved Arabic numerals every ten minutes. The 39.5mm diameter solid three-body case, flat inclined bezel, and downturned lugs are polished. It has the original black dial with evenly aged luminous Arabic numeral and square hour markers, luminous steel baton hands, an outer minute/seconds track, and a center-sweep chronograph hand. There is a subsidiary dial for the 12-hour indicator at the 6 o'clock position, a 60-minute dial at 3 o'clock, and a small constant seconds indicator at 9 o'clock. It is water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and there is a 48-hour power reserve at full wind. The 14.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The mechanical automatic self-winding Breguet caliber 5820 movement is rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 25 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, and a self-compensating flat balance spring.

Breguet designed the Type XX for the French naval air arm in the 1950's. This contemporary model still retains the fly back function needed for flying search patterns.
