This is a vintage c. 1965 gold-plated Breitling Chronomat 808. It has a leather strap with a gold plated steel case on a leather strap, and an acrylic crystal. It has a screw down winding crown, round chronograph push buttons, and a snap down solid case back engraved with "BREITLING – CHRONOMAT – STAINLESS STEEL BACK – 217012 - 808," and inside the engine turned back is "BREITLING WATCH LTD. – SWISS, " and a serial number. The 37mm diameter solid three-body case, gently curved lapidated lugs, and bi-directional rotating thin knurled bezel, are polished. The dial is matte silver with applied faceted yellow gold-plated "boat-shaped" baton hour markers with an applied gold arrow at the 12 o'clock position. It has the original gold-plated dauphine hands with luminous inserts, a red needle center sweep chronograph second hand, and an outer black minute/one-fifth second scale with Arabic numerals every five seconds graduated to 60. Outside is a red centesimal scale, and outside that is a rotating inner bezel with a black slide-rule chapter ring, with a black telemeter scale around the perimeter. There are twin "pie-pan" silver subsidiary dials with black markers and Arabic numerals, and gold indicator hands, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, and a 45-minute chronograph totalizer is at 3 o'clock. It has a 45-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Breitling Chronomat 808 has a mechanical manual winding Venus caliber 175 chronograph movement with a pillar wheel sub-second, and the "WOG" Breitling import code. It's rhodium-plated, with a beveled-edge base plate, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance, and an Incabloc shock absorber device. It includes a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The Breitling Vintage Chronomat 217012/808 was introduced in 1962.
