More about Gondolo 18K Yellow Gold

This is an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Gondolo 5109J-001. It has an alligator strap with a matching 18K yellow gold tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a solid screw-down case back secured with 4 screws. The 30mm by 43mm solid two-body case, straight lugs, and angled tonneau-shaped bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is gold with a sand finished texture and applied black Brequet numerals and black 581spade hands. There is a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock and a railway-style outer minute track. It's water resistant to 25 meters/80 feet, and the 6.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 215 movement is rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, a straight-line lever escapement, and a self-compensating free-sprung flat balance spring. It includes the patented Patek Philippe Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and 5 positions This model was originally produced in the late 1940's; although upgraded and slightly re-styled, this recent example follows the same elegant tonneau, art deco style. The Gondolo collection debuted in 1993; the line is named for the “Chronometro Gondolo” pocket watches created by Patek Philippe for the Latin Brazilian Gondolo & Labouriau jewelers in Rio de Janeiro in 1902.
