This is a vintage c. 1952 18k yellow gold Vacheron Constantin Chronograph 4072. It has an alligator leather strap with an 18k yellow gold Vacheron Maltese cross clasp, and an acrylic crystal. It has a pull out winding crown, and rectangular chronograph push buttons. The 34.5mm diameter solid three-body case, curved lugs, and rounded bezel, are polished. The dial is two-tone silver with applied gold faceted baton hour indices, and applied gold Arabic numerals at the half-hours. There is a telemeter and a tachymeter scale around the perimeter, and it has pointed gold baton hands, and a blued center sweep chronograph second hand. There are twin raised silver subsidiary dials with blued Arabic numerals, railway-style rings, blue markers and indicator hands, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, and a 30-minute chronograph totalizer at 3 o'clock. The 11mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Vacheron Constantin Chronograph 4072 has a mechanical manual winding Vacheron Constantin caliber 492 (built on a Valjoux ebauche) chronograph movement. It's rhodium plated with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's constructed with 19 jewels, and anti-shock device, and a beryllium balance with timing screws. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. The Vacheron Constantin Chronograph 4072 was introduced in 1938 and was produced until the late 1960's. Vacheron claims that only 214 yellow gold watches with the caliber 492 movement were ever produced.
