More about Geophysic 1958 SS Limited

This is a stainless steel Jaeger LeCoultre Geophysic 1958, 800.85.20. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 38.5mm diameter solid two-body case, curved bezel, and straight lugs are polished. The dial is white with applied steel Arabic numeral hour markers at the quarter hours, and stick index markers with luminous dots. The bâton hands are luminescent with orange inserts. It has a center sweep seconds hand and an outer track with minute/second divisions. There is an anti-magnetic iron inner core and lume plots on the inner bezel. It's a Certified Official Swiss Chronometer (COSC). The solid case back is engraved with the Geophysic globe logo, and it's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet. It has a 43-hour power reserve, and the 11.4mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic self-winding Jaeger LeCoultre caliber 898/1 movement is anti-magnetic to 600 gauss, with Kif protection, Spyr gears, and micro screws on the balance for regulation. It's constructed with 30 jewels, 201 components, a single barrel, and a shock absorber mechanism. It has a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, and five positions, a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, a swan-neck regulator, and hacking seconds. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). This is an updated tribute to the historic 1958 watches that were originally designed for scientific endeavor. It was a benchmark for watchmaking in 1958, and this readopted model has modified dimensions and was made in a limited edition of 800 examples.
