More about Vintage Fifty Fathoms Aqualung No Radiation BLANCPAIN EXHIBITION

In 1952, the French "Nageuers de combat" (combat swimmers) was formed as an elite team - the NAVY Seals of France. The Fifty Fathoms watch was designed for military use and low light military situations, especially diving. Blanpain used radioactive materials such as Promethium 147 to illuminate the watch dials. To separate the civilian watches from the military that were radioactive, Blancpain moved to using Tritium, marked with the triple triangle red and yellow radiation logo beginning in 1965.
