This is a vintage c. 1963 stainless steel Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Milspec 1 3031. The stainless steel case is in excellent original condition with original bevels still intact. It has a military nylon strap with a stainless steel deployment clasp, and the original acrylic crystal. It includes a screw down winding crown, and a solid screw down case back engraved with "BLANCPAIN – MILSPEC – AUTOMATIC – WATERPROOF – ANTIMAGNETIC - SHOCK PROTECTION – STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS MADE." The original dust cover is engraved with "IN CASE OF OPENING THE WATERTIGHTNESS OF THIS WATCH MUST BE RE-CHECKED BY AN OFFICIAL – BLANCPAIN – FIFTY FATHOMS – DEALER – PATENTS PENDING." The 41mm diameter solid three-body microbiled case, curved lugs, and flat unidirectional bezel, are brushed. The bezel has the original black Bakelite in excellent condition, with the gilt Arabic numeral elapsed dive times and baton minute markers, a knurled edge, and there is a diamond shape at the 60 minute position. The original glossy black dial has radium dot and baton hour indices, with a luminous dive triangle at 12 o'clock. It has the original radium on the hands and dial, and there is a round moisture indicator at 6 o clock that has aged uniformly with the dial, showing there has never been moisture in the case. There are steel luminous pointed baton hands, a luminous center sweep second hand with an arrow-shaped tip, and there is a perimeter white minute/second scale. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed, with a double "Swiss" at 6 o'clock. This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Milspec 1 3031 has a mechanical automatic Blancpain caliber AS 1361N movement that's rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, an Incabloc anti-shock device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a weighted rotor, and a self-compensating flat balance spring.
