More about Vintage Sea Dweller "Rail Dial" Circa 1979 UNPOLISHED

This is a vintage 1979 stainless steel Rolex Sea Dweller "Rail Dial" 1665. It has an integral stainless steel Oyster bracelet (93150), and a domed acrylic crystal. There is a screw down Twinlock winding crown protected by a crown guard, and it has a screw-down solid case back engraved inside with "MONTRES ROLEX S.A. – GENEVA SWITZERLAND PATENT – STAINLESS STEEL - 1665." The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, bi-directional ratcheted rotating bezel, and bracelet, are polished/brushed. There is a corrector for the helium release valve on the left side case at 9 o'clock, and the beautifully aged black bezel has graduated squared railroad-style Arabic numerals for decompression times, and the original luminous pip at 60 minutes. The original black "rail" dial has aged beautifully, with the luminous circles, triangle, and baton hour indices having developed an even creamy patina, as have the tritium inserts in the original "Mercedes" Rolex steel hands. The date aperture with a Cyclops magnification lens is at the 3 o'clock position, and there is an outer minute/seconds track and a centered sweep seconds hand. It's water resistant to 610 meters/2000 feet, and it's a Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC). The 17mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Sea Dweller "Rail Dial" 1665 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 1570 movement that's rhodium-plated, with oeil de perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 26 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting.
