More about Overseas 222 Vintage Steel with Yellow Gold Bezel JUMBO 38MM

This is a vintage c. 1970's stainless steel and 18k yellow gold Vacheron Constantin 222 Overseas 44018. It has an integral stainless steel bracelet with hexagonal center links, a fold over deployment clasp, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. Designer Gay Freres created the bracelet, and it has an 18k yellow gold pull out winding crown, and a solid snap down case back with sunray engine turning engraved in the center with "222." The 38mm diameter (tonneau measurement is 37mm by 45mm) measurement is solid two-body case, hooded lugs, bracelet, and 18k yellow gold stepped scalloped bezel, are polished/brushed. It has a tiny gold Maltese cross insignia encrusted inside a circle on the face corner at 5 o'clock, and the dial is matte grey with a gently aged "tweedy" patina. It has gently aged steel baton hands with luminous inserts, and applied faceted gold baton hour markers around a black dot perimeter minute scale. There is a gold-rimmed date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 120 meters/380 feet, and the ultra-thin 7.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Vacheron Constantin 222 Overseas 44018 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Vacheron Constantin Caliber K1121 movement. It's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's stamped with the quality seal of Geneva. It's constructed with 36 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has a 21k gold rotor, a free-sprung Gyromax beryllium balance that's adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and five positions, and a self-compensating Breguet balance spring. The Vacheron Constantin 222 Overseas 44018 was first introduced in 1977, to celebrate Vacheron Constantin's 222nd anniversary. It was produced from 1977 to 1984, and less than 150 examples in variations of steel and gold were made, created by a young German designer named Jorg Hysek.
