More about Royal Oak Automatic SS / Alligator

This is a stainless steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Cuir 14800. It has an alligator leather strap with a stainless steel deployant buckle and a gold Audemars Piguet logo. The solid 36mm by 46mm diameter three-body strongbox case is polished and brushed, with a stainless steel bezel screwed down by 8 hexagonal nuts; the case back is also secured by 8 screws. It has downturned stainless lugs with 4 screws to secure the strap, a screwed-down stainless bi-directional hexagonal winding crown, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The dial is white with engine-turned "Clous-de-Paris" vertical stripe motif, applied black Roman numeral hour index markers, Royal Oak baton hands and a center sweep seconds hand, and an outer track with dot minute/seconds divisions. There is an aperture for the date at 3 o'clock, a power reserve of 60 hours at full wind, and it's water resistant. The 8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Cuir 14800 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Audemars Piguet caliber 2125 movement that's rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 40 jewels, 280 components, and a shock absorber mechanism. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance with variable inertia blocks, and a self-compensating flat balance-spring. It has a 22K gold monobloc oscillating weight with ceramic ball bearings, and the bevels on the bridges are diamond graved. It has a stop balance for setting the time, and the balance wheel oscillates at 21,600 vph (3 Hz). Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak at the Basel Fair in 1972. It had a radically new shape and was designed by master horologist Gérald Genta. It was named after the legendary oak tree in which Charles II of England hid from his enemies, the Roundheads.
